Apex Legends hits 25 Million Players

EA’s stealth launch of the new battle royale hit Apex Legends has made big waves across all gaming sectors this week, and developer Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella has revealed the game has exceeded 25 million players in just one week since launch.

The seed for the game’s success was sewn upon the successful launch of the already well polished free to play title. With a number of key influencers, and media invited to play the game under NDA ahead of its launch, as well as a well-executed release which saw only a small number of users experience difficulty in accessing the game, Apex has gone from one win to the next in the past week.

Respawn has released a video (below) celebrating the incredible growth in players over the last week, starting off with the incredible achievement of reaching, a million unique players in under 8 hours. At its peak, Apex Legends saw over 2 million concurrent players online.

Not long after, the game continued to climb, reaching 10 million players in just 72 hours since release, and continuing to grow to the most recent announcement that 25 million players (and counting) have played Apex Legends in just one week.

Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella said in a blog post “From everyone here at Respawn, thank you. The community’s excitement for Apex Legends is electric, and we feel it here at the studio. We couldn’t have gotten where we are without you and look forward to having you on this journey with us.”

Like most games as a service, Apex Legends will continue to releases new content throughout the year to maintain player interest. Events already announced include;

  • A Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge, sponsored by Twitch, with 48 of the biggest streamers on Twitch competing live in on stream.
  • Valentine’s Day celebrations, introducing the first round of limited-time themed loot to the game.
  • The launch of a ‘first season’ which will introduce a Battle Pass as well as new Legends (playable characters), weapons, loot, and more.
