Today, Gameplanet expands its audience from New Zealand to Australia with the acquisition of Australian Gamer.
The result will be that Australian Gamer is being re-branded as Gameplanet Australia, with Matt Burgess as its editor. Guy Blomberg and James Cullinane (of MCV Pacific fame) will take on roles as Creative Strategist and Editorial Director respectively.
According to Gameplanet, the network of both sites will attract traffic of over 260’000 unique users per month.
Simon Garner, Gameplanet MD, said: “I’m very excited Australian Gamer has chosen to join our family. Between Matt, Yug and James, we intend to bring Gameplanet New Zealand’s methods, and standards to the Australian market through an editorial team that is already familiar to both Australian readers and the Australian video game industry.”
Matt Burgess, Gameplanet Australia editor, added: “We worked on AustralianGamer for more than seven years. It’s awesome to see it blossom from a niche publication into what will be a major presence in the industry.”
