GAME Australia marketing director Ben Grant has announced his resignation today, and is hoping to move from retail to publishing.
Grant began his career at GAME as a buyer in the UK, and has decided to move on after 15 years of service, effective after the close of GAME’s financial year at the end of January 2012.
Grant told MCV: “Having worked in specialist gaming retail for 15 enjoyable years, I feel it is time for a change, primarily to challenge myself further and also broaden my skill sets. My preference is to jump across to the other side of the desk, and join a publisher or developer.”
“GAME is a fantastic company to work for, which is why I have stayed for 15 years, but now it is time for a fresh challenge.”
During his time at GAME Australia, Grant oversaw the launch of GAME’s experiential retail concept stores, beginning with their Parramatta flagship, refreshed the brand and in-store feel, christened GAME TV (which is now in its third season and has recently undergone a key redesign) and the GAME On reward card scheme, as well as organising a successful 2011 GAME conference and launched a charity partnership with Variety.
Grant continued: “I have agreed to stay in my role as Marketing Director until the end of the financial year (Jan 2012) and help recruit my replacement, before looking for my next project, early in the new year.”
Paul Yardley, Managing Director at GAME, added: “We have been very happy to have Ben working with us for such a long time, and are sad to see him go. He has been an invaluable member of the GAME team, and we wish him all the very best as he moves into a new sector and a new challenge.”
