A grassroots initiative, The Breakaway Academy looks to provide a structured pathway for future gamers and children interested in building a strong IT skillset.
Utilising the coaching and performance development expertise of the Breakers, the Academy will operate a year-round age-tailored curriculum aimed at New Zealand’s next generation of competitors.
The course assists in developing the necessary skills related to esports success, such as; hand-eye coordination, IT skills, teamwork, leadership, communication, strategy and decision making. Alongside these key learnings, the course ensures to cover the equally important aspects of balance, nutrition, physical activity, mental health and fair play.
Research has suggested that students who compete in systematic esports competition have exponential positive education outcomes.
An introductory holiday camp will run this October, giving parents a taste of what to expect, which includes;
- Age specified learning groups (8 years and up)
- Lessons centred around esports and sports
- Half day sessions tailored to fit your holiday plans
