Of the six games selected for this year’s PAX Aus Indie Showcase, two are from the nation’s capital – Mars Underground and Double Shot.
Matt Sanderson, creator of Mars Underground, said, “I’m really proud and humbled to have my game selected for the PAX Aus Indie Showcase. It’s affirmation that the work I’ve been doing on this game was worth it.”
Harley Gilbert, one of the creators of Double Shot, added, “With virtual reality being a space with so many possibilities we strived to create something new that would utilize this tech, so combining the thrill of high level bartending and feeling like an 80’s action hero we did our best to craft a truly unique and exciting experience.
The ACT is relatively small, but this selection speaks to the quality of games being produced in the nation’s capital. While government support for the games industry remains low in Canberra, there are other initiatives that help the game development community connect and grow. The Game Plus co-working space helps its members accelerate their projects and collaborate, while CanDev’s monthly Pizza & Pixels meetups provide playtesting and networking opportunities.
In addition to Mars Underground and Double shot, Canberra will be well represented across Melbourne International Games Week with half a dozen ACT studios showcasing their work.
PAX AUS is a part of Melbourne International Games Week 2018. For more information on this event and a full schedule, you can check out the official site.
