ESL is taking the Intel Extreme Masters to the Katowice Expo 2019, to host the first “ESL Katowice Royale – Featuring Fortnite“, in a partnership with Epic Games.
Over the course of two weekends, 200 of the world’s best Fortnite players and influences will head to the Polish town to compete. On February 23-24, the Poland Edition features a US$100,000 prize pool for the top 100 Polish players to fight for. The International Edition follows the weekend after, on March 1 – 3, with a US$500,000 prize pool up for grabs.
A Fortnite free-to-play area will also be set up with 100 PCs and 100 PS4’s available for attendees to play with their friends, and compete in free-to-play competitions, with material prizes worth up to US$50,000.
“ESL Katowice Royale – Featuring Fortnite will be our first international Fortnite competition and we couldn’t be more excited,” said Sebastian Weishaar, Chief Product Officer at ESL.
Rob Hodson, Esports Manager at Epic Games, is just as enthusiastic about the partnership and the new competition, “Fortnite is a global game, and there are amazing, passionate players all around the globe,” adding, “Partnering with ESL in Katowice gives us the chance to showcase some of these incredible international competitors.”
