Wings For Life World Run, supported by Red Bull will have two Sydney events on the evening of May 5 in the CBD and Manly.
The global event will help raise funds for spinal cord research and features a unique twist.
Entrants will compete at a global level. Across Sydney the race starts at 9:00 PM, however in Paris, France its 11:00 AM, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil its 8:00 AM and in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates its 2:00 PM.
So the unique twist? Well, there isn’t a finish line! Via the Wings for Life World Run App, 30 minutes after race start a virtual chase car will start behind you, this car slowly picks up speed and passes competitors, when it does so it records your name and time on the national and global leader board and eliminates you out of the race.
Because there is no finish line it’s an event for all abilities (wheelchair friendly), there are people who run 80km and there are people recovering from spinal cord injuries who walk assisted a few hundred metres. Last year’s event saw 100,000 people lining up at start lines across the globe in more than 200 locations.
Event entry is $15, with 100% of proceeds going directly towards spinal cord injury research. In 2018 more than AUD$4.75m was raised globally just from this event so every registration makes a difference.
