The HOYTS Group has today announced the appointment of Scott Russell to a newly created role of General Manager of Esports, signaling an intention to further invest in this rapidly evolving entertainment sector.
HOYTS recently launched Australia’s first dedicated Esports arena at the Entertainment Quarter in Sydney which hosts the Gfinity Elite Series.
Further cementing their commitment to developing and growing the esports community throughout ANZ, HOYTS recently joined IGEA.
HOYTS Group CEO and President, Damian Keogh said, “There is a great synergy between cinemas and the growing esports industry. With Scott’s appointment we have greenlighted an ambitious investment program to increase attendance at our cinemas across the country with Esports events and viewing.”
Moving from his previous role as Head of the NSW Corporate Sales team, Scott is excited about the opportunities in his new role.
“My objective is to stay true to the HOYTS brand ethos of ‘Experience More’ and create a quality offering of esports content that gaming fans can connect with regularly. The goal is to bring esports fans closer to the action with weekly events. HOYTS has built the first multi-million dollar esports cinema arena in Australia and successfully screened live global esports tournaments across Australia and New Zealand” Scott added.
In a world first, HOYTS has partnered with leading developer Activision Blizzard and will be screening the annual developer community event BLIZZCON on Saturday November 3rd from 5am. This coincides with the launch of the Gfinity Elite Series Season 2 at HOYTS Entertainment Quarter.
