After residing in Epping for over a decade, Activision Blizzard has set up a new office in Pyrmont, which is publisher central in Sydney.
The move sees Blizzard Entertainment return to Sydney following the merger with Activision in 2008.
To celebrate, Blizzard threw an inaugural ‘WharfCraft’ gathering last night, inviting media and eSports partners for beer, pizza and a screening of pro Starcraft II matches from South Korea.
The office sits atop one of the many renovated wharves in Pyrmont and looks out over the water. It contains a large social kitchen and lounge area with a dedicated projector wall, in which Blizzard intends to host regular WharfCraft events.
During the celebrations, Blizzard staff gave a brief address, expressing their excitement at the more central location and outlining their plan to push Starcraft II eSports beyond its hardcore niche.
The Blizzard World Championship Series is the big current push, with the Australian Nationals and Oceania Finals taking place in just a fortnight now, selling through 600 tickets to the event in only 11 minutes. The world finals are set to take place later this year in Shanghai.
