A recipient of the scholarship program for its first two year’s, van Deventer will now spearhead the Next Gen Leaders Program for the IGDA Foundation.
Speaking with Develop Pacific, van Deventer said, “I’m very excited to be putting into practice what the first year of my masters in arts management has taught me and thrilled to be helping marginalised game developers level the playing field”.
“After being in the program for its first two years as a recipient of the scholarship, I’m confident I’m joining a dynamic and whip-smart team that I’m lucky to be a part of”.
“I’m most excited about getting the opportunity to direct and develop strategies for year-round support for the recipients outside of the GDC programming proper, which is a new break out initiative of the program for 2019.”
The multiyear program is focused on improving the inclusivity of game development by addressing the retention of under-represented minorities in the industry. It supports recipients with personal and professional development opportunities, coaching, and mentorship.
It is open to developers with 2-8 years of professional game development experience and who identify as an under-represented minority, is designed to provide a range of knowledge, experience, and tools to keep the participants in the industry.
Applications for next year’s program are open until November 30. You can find out more information and apply here.
