LONGITUDE: ASIA PACIFIC GAMES & PLAY

The Longitude exhibition will present cultural, experimental and arts practices in the medium of games from across the Asia-Pacific Region. The exhibition will include screenings, workshops, and an exhibition of playable games.

ALIEN PLANET: GAMING WORKSHOP FOR BEGINNERS

Have you always wanted to create your very own game? This is your chance to learn how!

HIGH SCORE 2018

High Score 2018: Composition and Sound Art for Gaming is an event focusing solely on the music and sound art utilized within the video game medium.

LET’S PLAY: CREATING VIDEOGAME REVIEWS

Play, make and learn with some of YouTube’s most popular game reviewers and streamers. Join YouTube Stars, Louna Maroun and Kevin Li and Twitch streamers Vondleand Pixel to learn the secrets for creativity, success and safety using these exciting platforms.

Whether you are a developer at seed stage or a studio ready to scale, finding the right funding source can be a complex process of trial and error.

GAME CONNECT ASIA PACIFIC (GCAP)

Game Connect Asia Pacific (GCAP), now in its 13th year, is Australia’s premier game development conference. Hosted by the Game Developers’ Association of Australia (GDAA), it strives to provide thought-provoking, creative and innovative sessions from leaders in the local and international game development industries.

When: 9am – 6pm, Tuesday 23 October – Wednesday 24 October

PLAY THE CITY WORKSHOP

Disruption is part of urban life – from road closures that last a few hours, to a part of the city that might be crowded. But how can we turn a disrupted city into our playground? Join the City of Melbourne for a day-long workshop where you’ll use data to identify a problem area in the city, and then work with local artists and experts to create a playful solution.

MELBOURNE QUEER GAMES FESTIVAL

The Melbourne Queer Games Festival is a relaxed, lofi, online event held over 22-23 October. Our mission is to inform, entertain and challenge local LGBTIQ players by bringing the best of world queer culture to Melbourne. It includes a livestream, website, game bundle and awards programme.

WOMEN & NB GAMERS CLUB SPECIAL EDITION

The Women and Non-Binary Gamers Club will run a special MIGW meet-up with headline guest Leighton Gray hosting an hour of game-play, before leading discussion about games she’s worked on, games she’s loved and her experience of working in the industry.

AUSTRALIAN GAME DEVELOPER AWARDS

The Australian Game Developer Awards (AGDAs) is the annual national industry awards for games developed by Australian game developers. The Awards are managed by the Game Developers’ Association of Australia (GDAA), with nominations encouraged in the lead-up to the Game Connect Asia Pacific 2018 Conference (GCAP).

EGAA 2018 ESPORTS CONFERENCE

The Esports Games Association Australia (EGAA) is bringing their industry conference to Melbourne as part of MIGW. At this conference, you can expect to hear updates from leading researchers about the importance of local esports game developers, and learn about issues facing the industry.

FEEDBACK FORUM

How do publishers and curators assess game prototypes? What do they look for? What stands out to them? Join RMIT University as a panel of three distinguished international games publishers/curators play five games-in-progress and give constructive feedback, all in front of a live public audience!

PARALLELS: THE FREEPLAY 2018 SHOWCASE

Parallels highlights some of the most unique, experimental, and personal independent videogames being made in Australia and beyond. From the artsy, to the weird, to the provocative and punk. For over ten years, Freeplay Independent Games Festival has been exploring these vital margins of games culture, uncovering emerging and exceptional makers, from bedroom coders, to artists pushing at the boundaries of the medium.

PAX AUS

PAX AUS is back for 2018! Australia’s largest video and table top gaming festival returns to Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre to celebrate gaming culture at its best. 2018 will feature an action-packed 3-day event jammed with all the good gaming stuff: from retro to VR, PCs to consoles, tabletop games, esports tournaments, music concerts, and over 100 panels featuring industry experts and personalities. Get ready for gaming nirvana!

EDUCATION IN GAMES SUMMIT

Co-presented by ACMI and the Victorian Department of Education, the Education in Games Summit 2018 is a great opportunity for primary and secondary teachers to engage with new ideas and strategies for innovative teaching and learning.

INTERFACE AT PAX AUS

Interface at PAX Aus 2018 is a B2B networking event that has been engineered to connect Australia’s rising development talent with senior members of the local and international games industry. Modelled on the ethos of ‘establish a connection’, Interface at PAX Aus presents a unique opportunity for these upcoming developers to get on the radar of some of the industry’s biggest names.

STEM VIDEO GAME CHALLENGE AWARDS

The STEM Video Game Challenge is a competition open to Australian school students preparing them to innovate, create and adapt to a rapidly changing world. The PAX Aus stand (#0850) is a fantastic opportunity for the winning students to exhibit their games to the public.

CHI PLAY 2018

CHI PLAY is the international and interdisciplinary conference (by ACM SIGCHI) for researchers and professionals across all areas of play, games and human-computer interaction (HCI). We call this area “player-computer interaction”.

MEGADEV6!
