One of the most prominent faces in the OCE esports industry, Chris Smith returns to our 30 Under Thirty for a third consecutive year, this time under his own banner.
In the past we have lauded Chris’ achievements in marketing, writing and PR, though since last year’s list, Chris has departed Corsair, and launched his own esports consultancy and education company, BIG Esports.
Formed from the solid foundations of Chris’ podcast, ‘Business in Games’, in November last year, Chris rapidly expanded, bringing Eranga De Silva and Nick Geronimo as Events Specialist & Account Manager and Digital Specialist and Account Manager respectively. The firm works with both endemic and non-endemic brands, helping to create seemless transitions into the fast -moving esports market.
Additionally, Chris continues to serve as a board member (founding) of the Esports Games Association Australia (EGAA) and provides ongoing support to the industry. Chris has for many years, provided free advice and mentoring for junior esports brands and employee hopefuls. Through BIG he has launched a series of Women In Games mentorship courses, and continues to run Australia’s largest business Facebook group for esports and games – Oceania Esports & Gaming Business Group.
A pioneer and champion for esports in Australia, Chris’ countless hours of commentary, tournament support, free advice, mentoring, team/player management and discussion, has put him at the very forefront of the industry’s collective mind, and is one of our greatest ambassadors and one to watch as the year’s progress.
Speaking to MCV Pacific , Chris said, “Most success in business can be credited to contacts and the hardworking people around the recipient, with this case being amplified more in our industry than most. The pure passion and dedication portrayed by the average esports worker and fan is second to none and I owe this achievement to those around me who have worked alongside me in helping me get to where I am today.”
