MCV Pacific Women In Games: Wren Brier

A first time inclusion in our list, Wren has become an integral member of the Queensland games industry.

Wren joined the industry in 2013, working with Halfbrick as an artist until 2015. She started on the Fruit Ninja live ops team before moving to work on the studio’s other flagship title, Jetpack Joyride. After departing Halfbrick Wren worked as a freelance artist, joining as a senior artist at Well Placed Cactus in March this year.

In the last year, Wren worked as art director on Pandora’s Books for indie studio Smithsoft. The title was nominated for the AGDA representation award for the main character’s visual design. Additionally, she contracted as an artist for Figment Technology, Well Placed Cactus, Playside and others.
Out side of here day-to-day responsibilities she joined Megan Summers in running the Women In Games Brisbane group and started organizing AMAs and monthly social lunches for its members. Wren assisted the GDAA in judging the Australian Game Developer Awards and selecting the recipients of the GDAA’s GDC scholarships. She spoke at PAX Australia 2016 on two panels: “Heroes Like Us: Representation of Queer Identity in Games” and “Stories Untold: How Diversity Helps Create Better Games”.

Her hard work saw here recognised with a scholarship from I Need Diverse Games for GDC 2017, attending the conference for the first time.

Speaking of her inclusion in the list for the first time, Wren said, “Last year I attended MCV’s Women’s Lunch and marveled at the amazing women who made that year’s list. I would not have guessed that this year I would be on the list myself alongside all these people I look up to. It’s a huge honour!”
