The format and changes to the 2019 Overwatch League have been announced today, with each of the league’s 20 teams playing 28 matches over four five-week stages.
Expansions franchises have also been assigned to the league’s existing divisions. The Atlantic division will now include Paris, Toronto, Washinton DC and Atlanta, while the Pacific division will include Vancouver, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Hangzhou.
Divisional winners and the next top four teams, regardless of division, will qualify for the post-season. Two additional teams will make the playoffs based on the results of a play-in tournament, which will take place immediately after the regular season.
Changes to how many matches teams will play during the week and longer breaks during seasons are being scheduled to ensure that players are kept fresh and ensure that players can visit their home “markets”.
The league will announce more changes later this year.
