QuakeCon Open announces $200,000 Prize Pool

The upcoming QuakeCon Open has revealed a whopping $200,000 prize pool for competitors at this year’s celebration of the original competitive first-person shooter.

Registration for the QuakeCon Open is free and does not require a QuakeCon BYOC pass. All competitive matches will be played on dedicated tournament PCs.

Previous years have seen Australia, despite a lack of regional support, fly out to the Texas-based convention and fight tooth and nail against the huge roster of international competitors. Dan “Astroboy” De Sousa fought at last years Quake World Championship Duel Tournament, placing in 9th-16th Place (tied) and flying home with USD$10,000 in prize money.

Aussies have always put up a good fight in Quake, and considering the lack of support for the region, we are punching well above our weight in talent.

The full player guide and rules for the upcoming Quake Open are available on the ESL website.
