The upcoming QuakeCon Open has revealed a whopping $200,000 prize pool for competitors at this year’s celebration of the original competitive first-person shooter.
Registration for the QuakeCon Open is free and does not require a QuakeCon BYOC pass. All competitive matches will be played on dedicated tournament PCs.
Previous years have seen Australia, despite a lack of regional support, fly out to the Texas-based convention and fight tooth and nail against the huge roster of international competitors. Dan “Astroboy” De Sousa fought at last years Quake World Championship Duel Tournament, placing in 9th-16th Place (tied) and flying home with USD$10,000 in prize money.
Aussies have always put up a good fight in Quake, and considering the lack of support for the region, we are punching well above our weight in talent.
