Sarah Moran, CEO of Girl Geek Academy, is nominated for Humanitarian of the Year in Cosmopolitan’s Women of the Year 2018.
The nominations, and winners are voted on by the public and women from different backgrounds and disciplines are recognised for their outstanding work in categories such as Humanitarian of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year, along with many others.
When asked about her nomination, Sarah told Develop Pacific, “I’m so delighted to be nominated and I had never really considered what we do as “humanitarian”. Most people don’t know this, but gender equality is one of the key early prevention measures of family violence which is a massive issue for men and women and children across Australia.”
She continued, “So our work in helping women succeed is our attempt to bring gender equality to games, to making, to tech and startups. We want to raise awareness of what we all can do to prevent family violence, so even being nominated is great for helping people understand why we do what we do. So if you can spare 2 minutes to help us out: get voting! There’s also some great other women in the other categories, such as Nakkiah Lui and Dr Nikki Stamp. All the women nominated are pretty awesome and I can’t wait to meet them at the awards!”
Voting for Cosmopolitian’s Women of the Year is open now.
