Sega of Europe confirmed to MCV overnight that rumours of Sega Studios Australia closing were, sadly, true.
The Brisbane studio has been staying open on a game for game basis for the last while, and MCV understands that its current project, due to be completed in early August, will be its last.
Sega couldn’t confirm the exact closure date of the studio due to having a consultation role, nor any other specifics, but did confirm that it was definitely closing at some point ‘later this year’.
The studio, formerly known as Creative Assembly, was responsible for Medieval II: Total War, Stormrise and the recent London 2012 Olympics game.
It’s had scares before, with the studio having to downsize and re-evaluate its strategy in February of last year, but this time it looks like it’s final.
We wish the best to all developers and former-developers from an iconic Australian studio.
