Here’s a handful of things you’ll need to know from the info page which was circulated from the Australian Classification Branch yesterday.
- Neither MA15+ nor R18+ videogames are able to be demonstrated in a public place.
- It is up to the person selling the game to determine the age of the person buying. Policies on how to do this may vary by retailer, but photo ID is always a good place to start.
- In South and Western Australia, some restrictions are placed on where R18+ games can be merchandised in a store. More details on this are available at the Classification Branch web site.
- The penalties for retailers who do sell R18+ games to underage people will vary depending on the state. A full list of states and penalties is on the last page of the Classification Branch information pack, so make sure to familiarise yourself with it if you work in a retail store.
