From next month, Sony will cease support of full game download codes sold at retail, with digital games to become exclusively available through the PlayStation Store.
GamesIndustry.biz has reported that a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson said: “I can confirm that as of April 1, 2019, we will no longer be offering full games through SIE’s Global Digital at Retail program. The decision was made in order to align key businesses globally.
To support full games and premium editions, SIE will introduce increased denominations at select retailers. DLC, add-ons, virtual currency, and season passes will still be available.”
A memo shared by to GameSpot employees outlined the full details of the coming changes. Existing codes shelves are expected to be deactivated by the end of the month.
No official comment has been made regarding the upcoming April release of Mortal Kombat 11, or Days Gone, assuming this is due to the immediacy of their launches.
