After it’s announcement early last year through an email blast to developers, Steam has finally launched local pricing support for the Australian Dollar.
Across the pond in New Zealand, local NZD pricing has been supported since mid-2015, and this new launch brings the Australian Steam Store into line with its overseas counterparts.
An important (apparently easily overlooked) aspect of the change is that developers must provide region-specific pricing for their products, else the title would become unavailable for purchase in said region.
Kotaku has provided an in-depth look at how this has affected the Au Steam Store here.
Publishers and developers alike now have full control over product pricing for the Australian Steam Store. How this change will impact Australian consumers, and at which prices titles will settle are questions that will be answered in time.
