The new dedicated section will seek to highlight the achievements of, and the issues facing, underrepresented groups from across the Australian and New Zealand Games industry. This includes but is not limited to sexuality, gender, race (including Indigenous industry members), cultural background, religion, ablebodiedness, neurodivergence, and socioeconomic status.
Writers from the Queerly Represent Me (QRM) team with varied expertise on intersectional diversity—plus others from the industry working alongside QRM—will be leading this initiative.
Game As You Are has been made possible by the support of Microsoft and their Gaming For Everyone program.
Jeremy Hinton, Xbox Business Lead, Asia, said, “The Gaming for Everyone initiative was set up just over a year ago with the aim of making Xbox a more fun, inclusive and diverse environment for everyone to play in. This program was designed to reflect Microsoft’s core values, resulting in positive change for the gamers we serve, creating an environment where Xbox fans are welcomed, respected and supported. We are thrilled to be able to extend our support for the Game As You Are initiative from Trade Media to the local gaming community and look forward to hearing stories of underrepresented groups in the future”
Game As You Are will launch across the Trade Media network in early July, with new features published fortnightly.
