Twitch has today announced Sara Clemens as COO, Mark Weiler as SVP, Head of Platforms & Services, and Amir Shevat as VP of Developer Experience. The new key hires are to reflect Twitch’s commitment to the needs of its community by investing in the brand’s growth and future across multiple departments
“Twitch has continued to grow at an amazing rate,” said Emmett Shear, CEO, Twitch. “With our focus on listening to our community and providing the products and services to fuel their success, it’s important that we continue to invest in a leadership team that will ensure we are bringing these things to market in a timely and effective manner. To that end, Sara Clemens, Mark Weiler, and Amir Shevat are all recognized leaders in their respective fields and extend Twitch’s role as a leader in social video.”
With over 20 years of leadership experience in broadcast, technology, and entertainment, Sara was most recently COO at Pandora, where she worked to transform the internet radio pioneer into a personalized music service connecting artists directly with fans at scale. Her efforts to build strong relationships with the music industry placed Sara on Billboard’s coveted list of Most Powerful Women in Music in 2015 and 2016. Prior to Pandora, Sara was on the Executive Team at LinkedIn, responsible for corporate development and new ventures, during which time she led the company’s successful entry into the China market. Sara also led product & partnerships at Xbox and was a founding member of the team that created HoloLens, Microsoft’s market-leading Augmented Reality headset. She holds an MA with honors from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. At Twitch, Sara will oversee all commercial, operations and go-to-market teams and will be responsible for scaling the company’s business functions as Twitch continues its international growth.
“Brands with a creator-first ideology have the greatest potential for success because they are driven by the customer, not competitors,” said Sara Clemens, COO, Twitch. “Twitch is a uniquely creator-centric company as demonstrated by the level of social engagement on the service. My goal is to apply my global experience from the technology, gaming and entertainment industries to optimize how the teams at Twitch work together to further the brand’s mission of enabling creators to connect with fans and build amazing real time experiences.”
Twitch co-founder and former COO Kevin Lin will continue to have a significant role leading Culture, Strategy & Innovation reporting directly to Shear, where he will be responsible for new Twitch programs including original content and corporate strategy.
Mark Weiler brings over 25 years of Software Engineering expertise to Twitch, starting his career at Microsoft building Email and networking products. Mark comes to Twitch from Rubicon Project where he served as SVP Head of Engineering, and led a team of over 120 engineers to build the largest independent Advertising Exchange, recognized by The Drum as 2016 Best Overall Technology Platform for Programmatic Trading.
