Women In Games: Deborah Konopnicki

With a rich history in retail, Deborah has become one of JB Hifi’s brightest stars.

Deborah joined JB Hifi in December 2006 as a Software Advisor (Music) in Chadstone and Southland, eventually going on to act as a Media advisor for both stores with carriage of the gaming category.

She graduated Monash University in 2010 with a Masters of Communications and Media Studies and contining her work with the retailer.

After a brief sabbatical, Debroah returned to JB, working with their online music team,  expand the customer database and developing their current online offerings.

Just over two and a half years later, Debroah joined JB Hifi’s Games Buying and Planning Team, initially focused on understanding the market, the customers, and the buying and planning processes. This would later expand, seeing Deborah planning their internal Games conference from 2014 to 2016 and subsequently managed the delivery of the 2017 and 2018 conferences. These events showcases hardware, accessories, and content from global suppliers. The event is a key plank of developing the gaming offering for JB Hi-Fi and is attended by over 100 staff from across Australia.

Deborah also reviewed and revamped the games hardware inventory system, delivering optimised inventory management for JB Hi-Fi, suppliers, and most importantly customers. Additionally, leading the charge in reviewing and optimising their internal games buying processes.

In April this year, Deborah was appointed lead inventory planner for all gaming hardware in what is a strategic category for JB. She is currently working with their marketing team to increase the profile of gaming accessories across promotional media.

Speaking to MCV Pacific about her inclusion in this year’s list, Deborah said, “I was surprised to be included, but with my passion for gaming I am honoured to be recognised alongside such an esteemed and incredible list of women.”

“It’s always so empowering to learn about and be associated with such trailblazers within the industry, and I have to give massive thanks to my team and for allowing me to learn and grow within the company to get me to this point.”
