Step back in time to 2010 and Leonie is working as high school Mathematics and I.T. teacher. Fighting burnout, Leonie made the decision to return to study – undertaking a Graduate Certificate of Multimedia at Swinburne University of Technology then an Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media at AIE.
For the next few year’s Leonie would begin honing her skills, freelancing with intermittent concept art and illustration jobs.
In February 2016 Leonie joined Mighty Games Group as an Artist, Illustrator and Character Designer. She would begin working across Crossy Road, Shooty Skies, Charming Runes and Charming Keep, Disney Crossy Road as well as continuing to freelance.
Leonie has continued to excel in the past 12-months working across various Hipster Whale projects including a number of Crossy Road updates, collaborating on on a Charming Runes comic and producing collectable polaroid art for Framed 2 with Loveshack.
Outside of the Leonie presented a Character Design talk for NZGDC17 and GCAP17 and completed a lot of art projects that included portraits, cat stickers, learning vector art and game jammed at GlobalGameJam 2018. She continued with her personal SuperListenMode comics and personal art known as BurpDoodles.
All of this and more saw Leonie featured in our 2017 Women In Games List as an Honorable Mention, and earned her an inclusion as a finalist for Creative Impact at last year’s Women In Games Awards presented by Xbox.
Speaking to Develop Pacific on her inclusion in the 2018 Women In Games List, Leonie said, “Eternally grateful to the wonderfully lovely and supportive friends and people I’ve met along the way who helped keep me going! Let’s keep being awesome, kind and supportive of all the inspiring kickbutt ladies and non binary peeps! <3.”
