The game so many people have been obsessing about on PC is set to hit consoles in a big way, pushing ‘Triple A, but free-to-play’.
Wargaming’s senior product marketing manager Pat Alvardo notes in an article on MCV UK that while free-to-play itself on console is nothing new, the kind of quality game World of Tanks represents is as yet unseen.
If the reception on PC is anything to go by, that lack of barrier to entry is perfectly poised to earn Wargaming dividends, as the countless people who ‘just want to know what the fuss is about’ will have a chance to jump in.
All that remains is the in-game purchasing model, which, again, Wargaming seem to be getting very right on PC. Given the credit cards already being set up on Xbox Live, those microtransactions shouldn’t be a huge leap for many a gamer, as long as the game itself delivers the goods.
